THE SONSHIP

 THE SONSHIP
Matthew 21:34-38: When the harvest time had come, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his produce. But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. … Finally he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.”

The Holy Trinity, as a concept is not in the Bible, neither in the Old and New Testament. Its construction is a so called derived understanding, which belongs to the interpretation realm regarding the Holy Scriptures.
There are some assumed references here and there in the texts, but either they are elusively vague or mere interpolations from later editors and compilers. For example, it is commonly held by most researchers, the very end of the Gospel Matthew is considered a latter extension from an unknown editor, where in the Gospel Jesus was made to say, that "Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, …"    (Matthew:28:19)

In Christianity hardly anything is a more well established concept, than Jesus is the divine Son of God, the so called only Begotten Son, that it is accepted as almost a scientific fact. However, this view, together with the compound notion of the Holy Trinity, which includes the full Godship of Jesus together with the Holy Spirit inside the Godhead, was a quite late development in Christianity, crystallized in a long process during the period from the 4th to the 6th century and carved into marble by the first seven ecumenical councils of the church.
The Councils created Creeds aiming a unified Christendom throughout the Roman Empire.

Protestantism usually accepts only the faith statements of the first five ecumenical councils, but not more. These millennium documents are still governing the framework of the theological thinking of the Roman Church. However, as this faith documents can not be backed directly from the Bible, but by human religious interpretations, so it can be stated that the Roman Church put human derivative speculations over the Bible.

That is why the Roman Church teaches even today, that the Bible is just only one Source of the faith, and beside the Bible, the Roman Church has the authority to teach practically whatever they want, moreover the Popes are infallible in their statements regarding faith and church, including the Papal Decrees behind the Doctrine of Discovery.

Protestantism demanded that it is essential to return to the Bible, as the sole authority in faith matters. Take note, that the Roman Church banned the ordinary people to read the Bible at all, and banned all vernacular translations of the official Latin speaking Bible, they called the Vulgata. It was not allowed to translate the Bible even into Italian, the local language of Rome.

The reformation brought forth the very reading of the Bible, and the translations of the Bible into vernacular languages, among the German translation, done by Martin Luther himself.

Without the vernacular Bible translations, and the invention of the large scale printing, Protestantism would not ever have the vigor, to unseat the Roman Church in many countries, including Britain. However, most protestant denominations, including the Anglicans, the Lutherans, the Presbyterians, the Methodists were not able to dismiss the decrees of the first five ecumenical councils, where the Church of the Roman empire declared the tenets of the theoretical divinity of Jesus and the theoretical construction of the Holy Trinity as untouchable doctrines. Still, all the creeds from the ecumenical councils in the early centuries are derived understanding, not direct biblical ordinances.

Even today the issue of the Holy Trinity, including the only begotten Sonship of Jesus is exiled to the realm of the inexplicable mysteries, which demands no reasonable logic, but only blindfolded faith in the creeds. However, by the reading of the Bible, looking for answers directly from the Bible by the Holy Spirit, the ordinary people found not an untouchable and transcendental Jesus, but a tangible Master, Brother and King, whom we have the privilege to follow.

Technically, as we do not know too much about Heaven, so we have to deal with Jesus' Sonship on Earth. It is very logical. In Heaven there is hardly any weight of His Savior meant Sonship, as Heaven is assumed to be a place of peace and harmony and joy, meanwhile the Sonship is understood as a role to help solve the ultimate tension in the visible universe, which is sin and punishment, repentance and salvation.
On Earth we hardly have anything else than troubles and miseries generation by generation before the great deluge during the great deluge and after the great deluge. It is self evident, that we desperately need help.

There is Only One who can help, and it is God. As it is written in the Apostle's letter to the Hebrews, chapter two. that "For most assuredly, not to angels does he give help, but he gives help to the seed of Abraham. However, it is also written in the Book of Exodus, chapter 33, that God told Moses that "You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live."

Therefore, God cannot come directly to rescue us, he needs his presence to be mediated by a mediator. Even when God sent us messages from Heaven, he needed messengers to do that. They were the patriarchs, the great prophets in the Bible and other chosen men and women of God. They conveyed the messages and the warnings of God. Most of the messages begin like the Lord says, that you folks must repent and return to God.

Sometimes the presence of God among the people were manifested partially in great prophets like Elijah, nonetheless to mediate the fullness of the presence of God requires Sonship. Not even just regular sonship but perfect Sonship, which means perfect obedience to the Father in Heaven, but on Earth.
As it is written by the Apostle Paul to the Collossians, chapter two that “For in Jesus Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily, and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.”

This also talks about the ultimate mystery, that as our brother and Master, Jesus shares his only begotten Sonship with us. His Sonship in the Father of Heaven, of course, has nothing to do with biological gender, because the essence of this Sonship is not gender, but the perfect obedience to the Father in Heaven. As much as we obey the commandments, so much we share the Sonship of Jesus by Faith, by Grace and by the Holy Spirit.
We can remember, that Jesus demanded that the his disciples in the boat stop the storm on the lake by faith, and at the end of the Gospel of Mark he commanded the disciples, including many women, that “ These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” May we share the Sonship with Jesus, as his congregants on Earth we may participate in the final redemption and the salvation of the Faithful, Amen.
