WE ARE ALL CHILDREN OF GOD

A short meditation on the Word, at Christmas time of 2022

WE ARE ALL CHILDREN OF GOD (Luke:18:17)
" Most assuredly, I tell you, whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."

The Almighty God would have had the power to send his Christ as a full fledged adult, descending from Heaven with full power, commanding an army of Angels judging and weed out all the wicked on Earth. But he was descending to the Earth by taking a form of a child. It was the WAY.

When we are born, we are completely helpless, we are fully dependent on our parents, who are supposed to be responsible adults.

When people are still kids, the waiting time for adulthood feels too long. “Are we there yet”? used to be an urging question on a road trip, but it is also used to aim to reach the milestones like graduating from elementary schooling, then the high school diploma, occasionally some college or university level extended years of schooling.

Nature thinks that at least the transitioning into adulthood begins with puberty, and the legal age of joining the army or of driving, voting, drinking, serving on a jury, even of marrying differs from country to country.

Some kids are desperate to grow up as fast as possible, however, advisers, student guidance councilors, teachers, professors, doctors try to suggest it to the youth in almost all generations, that you should not wish to grow up too fast.

It is indeed very sad when poverty, wars, criminal neighborhood, abusive environments robe kids from their childhood, as it happened and happens so often in any countries. However, as teenagers or young adults, we were told also too often, with warnings, that grow up. Especially, when youth are caught in too much naivete, like thinking that life should be fair.

So, we were told that life is not fair and grow up, which is practically the very process of disillusioning, the very acceptance of the strict establishment and the chained fate of the world.

In a tightly designed authoritarian world, where either authoritarian rulers or mostly the faceless money dictate what to do, how to live, even what to think, people desperately, but sometimes unsuccessfully try to cling on their humanity, upholding family ties, trying hard to create kindness and care in the community.

The ‘grow up’ advise is thusly soaked by bitterness and wrinkled foreheads, and by the giving up on dreams and ideals.
However, Jesus actually demands the opposite. We should retain not only our humanness by any means, but also the very childness in our hearts regardless of our age, because if God does not provide, there is no sunshine, no rain, no growing seeds, no seasons, no resources in the ground, no physics upheld in the Creation, and the stars will fall from the skies.

If God does not give us strength for the next step, the next heartbeat, the next taking of breath, there is no life. If someone thinks that he does not need God, that person is not only a fool, but fully delusional. We depend with all of our everything on God. It means that it is factual that regardless of our age, we are still children, at least in the eyes of God.

And it is not only that, but almost everything that is needed for a decent adult life, it is used to be taught in the kindergarten, that we have to learn to say and to mean please, thank you and sorry. We had to learn to share and to play fair and nicely, in order to become a good person. We should never forget the childhood wisdom, especially the wisdom of the Christmas Child.

For it is exactly as Jesus said that “Most assuredly, I tell you, whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."

May we, as the children of God on Earth, acknowledge and bless God as our Heavenly Parent, who is our Rock and Redeemer in his Son, Jesus Christ, our Master and our brother by the Holy Spirit, as we are witnessing the Christmas of God in a little child, as it is written that " For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." AMEN."
